Driven by her enjoyment of website content management, use of multimedia tools to create and subtitle videos, and development of new analytical reports using social media content, Milagros took a leap into the tech field with Hero in August 2021, following a 16-year career with the US Government as a Spanish-English translator and political analyst for Latin American topics. Read her full story below.

I joined Hero as a QA Analyst in August 2021, after 16 years of working for the US Government in my hometown of Panama City, Panama. I started as a Spanish-English translator and then transitioned into a new role as a political analyst for Latin American topics, ranging from gang violence in El Salvador to presidential elections in the region.
I decided to take this tech leap because, during my time as an analyst, I enjoyed doing content management of our website, using multimedia tools to create and subtitle videos, and developing new analytical reports using social media content. Also, after 16 years of reading news reports on a daily basis, you really need to find a new calling if you want to keep your sanity!
In addition to my job, I also enjoy cross-stitching and sewing reusable bags, learning languages, watching movies (my all-time favorite is The Shawshank Redemption), reading books, and spending time with my pets.
To all the women who are on the fence about starting a career in technology, I would say do your research to see what the best path is for you, analyze your pros and cons as we all do, but most importantly, make sure it’s something you really enjoy.
